Trimester 2: Author Study |
The author we study is Patricia Polacco. Please visit her website to learn more about books written by her. Students will read assorted theme books by Polacco and by the end of the unit will be able to make claims and find evidence in her books pertaining to her craft, messages and characters.
If you visit the library, pick up some Polacco books to read with your child at night to enhance their study at school.
Click on the Patricia Polacco link on the left to find more resources to help your child better understand her as a children's author and famed writer.
| Trimester 2: Non-Fiction Writing |
Students will first learn about the structure of non-fiction books. There are 5 different structures that authors use to write their books. We will spend most of our time learning about the structures before we begin writing our own books. Students will have to bring in 3 different resources to help them write their books by February 7th. During our library time, the librarian will also help us use the computer to create some of the pages of our books. Students will then become the expert on their topic by writing a book and making a display about their topic. We will then have a day to share our non-fictional presentations and books with the community. We hope you will be able to join us for this great celebration.
